What is SCE Charge Ready Home?
Many older homes have electrical service that cannot safely support the sustained load of a Level 2 EV charger. Southern California Edison’s Charge Ready Home program helps qualifying residential customers pay for the electrical work required to become EV-ready.
For an eligible panel project, the program requires replacement of an existing panel below 200 amps with a new 200-amp panel, plus a new circuit serving a 240-volt outlet within 25 feet of dedicated off-street parking. The resident must also install a Level 2 charger within 180 days after receiving the panel upgrade.
May cover up to 100% of eligible upgrade costs for households below 80% of area median income or enrolled in an accepted public-assistance program.
May cover up to 50% of eligible costs for homes in a qualifying top-25% disadvantaged community under CalEnviroScreen 4.0.
Choose the rebate that matches your electrical panel.
You can apply while planning the project, during installation, or up to six months after completion by submitting the application and required supporting documents. You do not need to own or lease an EV before participating.

Is the $4,200 rebate guaranteed?
No. The income-qualified pathway provides up to $4,200, limited by eligible project costs and subject to completed documentation, program approval, and available funding. Funds are considered pending until the program administrator approves the application.
Can I receive the rebate if my panel is already 200 amps?
The panel-upgrade benefit requires an original panel below 200 amps. If your panel is already 200 amps or greater, SCE may offer an outlet-only incentive of up to $1,000 for qualifying installations.
Do I need to own an electric vehicle before applying?
No. SCE states that residents do not need to own or lease an EV before participating, but they must intend to install Level 2 charging within the program’s required timeframe.
Does the rebate pay for the EV charger?
No. SCE lists the EV charger itself as an excluded cost. The program applies to eligible electrical infrastructure such as the qualifying panel upgrade and EV outlet installation.
How long does the physical panel upgrade take?
SCE notes that typical panel upgrades may take about six to eight hours, although permitting, utility coordination, site conditions, and inspection schedules affect the overall project timeline.
